CVA involved in events related to the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union

On 15 June 2021, José Luís da Cruz Vilaça, Managing Partner at CVA, intervened as moderator in the European Competition Day conference, organised by the Portuguese Competition Authority, in Lisbon. "Recovering the Economy: the role of Competition Policy" was the theme of the panel moderated by José Luís da Cruz Vilaça, which had as speakers Andreas Mundt (BKA), António Ferreira Gomes (OECD), Giulio Federico (European Commission), Teresa Moreira (UNCTAD) and William Kovacic (GWULS). The European Competition Day, which was followed online by around 650 people from all over the world, also had the participation of other competition law experts, such as Richard Whish and Eric Posner, as well as members of the European Commission, other institutions and national competition authorities.

Mariana Martins Pereira, Associate Lawyer at CVA, was also a moderator at the High Level Conference on the Rule of Law in Europe, organised by the Portuguese Presidency of the Council, on 17 and 18 May, in Coimbra. "The Rule of Law under the Lisbon Treaty and the Charter" was the motto of the panel, in which Nuno Piçarra (CJEU), Ana Gaudêncio (FDUC), Elzbieta Chojna-Duch (University of Warsaw), Alessandra Silveira (FDUM) and András Jakab (University of Salzburg) also participated. The Presidents of the ECtHR (Robert Spano) and the CJEU (Koen Lenaerts) and the European Commissioner for Justice (Didier Reynders) were also present at the conference, as well as ministers of foreign affairs and secretaries of state from the various Member States, academics and NGO representatives.

This involvement shows and further reinforces CVA's commitment to EU values, which lie at the heart of its day-to-day practice.
